Hi Maryam, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
I started The Eden Magazine in 2010 when there were few online magazines, which was a bit challenging. I came up with the idea of creating a platform where positive and uplifting stories could be shared to inspire those who need to know our world is not all about negativity, hate, and sadness.
While we do live in a world where animal abuse, child abuse, and much more are happening, we need to know that we are in power to change it.
I came up with the online magazine because I was a caregiver of my mother, who was battling Alzheimer’s. I didn’t want her to be in any facility, as sadly, I witness that some are abusing these vulnerable older folks.
Maryam, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
This is a very long story. I have a degree in Visual arts and communication/graphic design. When I lived in Savannah, Georgia, I had a magazine focusing mainly on working with Animal Shelters and animal rescuers, as my husband and I were also animal rescuers big time back then; when I moved to Los Angeles, I had to say farewell to the magazine. Then, I wanted my next magazine to be more broad and talk not only about saving animals but also about saving and compassion for all living beings. I found my purpose in life by recognizing the power of storytelling to inspire, educate, and connect people, driving me to foster a platform for meaningful narrative and ideas through The Eden Magazine. Today, I am proud of The Eden Magazine, which reaches over one million readers worldwide. Eden Magazine is a non-profit, and we support many charities. You can find some of them on our website, www.theedenmagazine.com.
In the past, we supported Firefighters, the Boys and Girls Club, and Animal Shelters. During COVID, the Front-liners helped the citizens while we were all going through the hardest time that our generation can remember.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
It is not really a story but rather building a magazine from the ground up, navigating the challenges of publishing while staying true to the vision of promoting compassion, environmental awareness, and holistic living, even in the face of setbacks and obstacles along the way.
I learned a lot from each of our writers and those who contributed stories and messages about surviving, even in the toughest times.
The work of love from our team is priceless, and we have grown to know each other even more than ever.
In The Eden Magazine, we are an extended family.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
The Eden Magazine is a non-profit Publication. Naturally, it is challenging. We rely on advertising to sponsor each issue. When it first started, it was easier to run it compared to now,
